Low Life Studios – A fresh start after Jakku Tattoo

Yes, it’s true! After eight amazing years, Jakku Tattoo has closed its doors. It’s been a bittersweet transition, but I’m excited to announce that I’ve taken a leap and joined the talented team at Low Life Studios.

Reflecting on Jakku Tattoo

My time at Jakku Tattoo has been nothing short of phenomenal. I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most creative and passionate artists in the industry. Together, we’ve transformed countless ideas into stunning pieces of art, and I’ve grown both professionally and personally.

Running a tattoo shop comes with its own set of challenges. While tattoo artists often enjoy the independence of being self-employed, managing a tattoo shop requires a unique set of business skills. Handling business matters and day-to-day operations took valuable time away from my tattoo art. Moving forward, I’ve made the decision to focus solely on my artistry and will be working as part of another studio. This shift allows me to dedicate more time and energy to creating meaningful and inspiring tattoos for my clients.

Facing economic hardships, a pandemic, and the escalating costs of running a business proved to be too much for our little tattoo shop in South Calgary. As is often the case during challenging times, we made the heartfelt decision to disband and seek new opportunities in different locations. I sincerely wish the other artists the very best on their individual journeys.

One of my fondest memories is mentoring Nikki Naos and watching her develop into the incredible tattoo artist she is today. It’s been a joy to pass on my knowledge to the next generation and see their growth firsthand.

Back when Zach Roberts and I were colleagues at Jakku Tattoo, who would have thought we’d come full circle? Today, I’m thrilled to be working alongside him again, but this time at his very own Low Life Studios.
